Nose Work for K9s
You may have read about it in the August issue of The Whole Dog Journal or you may have heard about it through training circles. It originated on the West Coast and you may have wondered if and when it would make its way East. K9 Nose Work is here. Tails-U-Win is proud to announce the first K9 Nose Work Classes in Connecticut.
Classes will be taught by instructor Tricia Heldmann. Tricia has been studying with Scott Williams, the only Certified Nose Work Instructor on the east coast. Tricia is active in search and rescue and has been training scent detection dogs since 1992.
K9 Nose Work Classes are exhilarating for both dog and handler and are based on authentic scent detection training. Scent Work can help develop confidence even in the most timid dog. The mental exercise of searching and problem-solving is great for calming and focusing the energetic or highly aroused dog. Another huge benefit of K9 Nose Work is the positive working relationship that develops between you and your dog when you both are out "hunting" together as a team. For those handlers that love to compete, K9 Nose Work Classes will prepare you for the official Fun Nose Work Trials.
Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and a natural desire to hunt. This class focuses on teaching you how to encourage and develop your dog’s natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise. It’s a great class for your dog to have fun, build confidence and burn lots of mental and physical energy. Find out just how good your dog’s nose really is!
