Classes >> Rally Obedience

Rally is the newest sport offered by the AKC and APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers).  This competitive event combines elements from basic obedience training, competition obedience, free style dance and agility!  Rally can also provide a transitional link to competitive obedience and agility or just be another fun team activity to learn with your dog!

A Rally course is designed with 10 to 20 different “stations” with written instructions to be performed by the team. The course is numbered and the handler and dog follow the course performing each exercise.  The dog and handler move thru the course with the dog under control and walking politely on the handler’s left side.

Rally ObediencePraise, talking, clapping, patting your legs and all verbal means of encouragement are allowed in the ring. Repeating an exercise if necessary is also allowed.  During competition events handlers may not use treats or touch their dogs.  There are 4 titles available in Rally:  Rally Novice (RN), Rally Advanced (RA), Rally Excellent (RE) and Rally Advanced Excellent (RAE).

Rally is a fun and great way to continue using your Family Dog skills and to work as a team with your dog!

AKC Rally Novice

Prerequisite: Family Dog II or comparable training.  Your dog should be able to walk loosely near your side on leash and have fairly reliable sits and downs.

Course Description:

Bring lots of delicious treats, your clicker, your encouragement and enthusiasm!

What is APDT RALLY?: APDT Rally is open to all dogs; purebred, mixed breeds and dogs with disabilities are encouraged to participate.

APDT Rally offers different fun exercises and challenges. Handlers are allowed to talk to their dogs throughout the entire sequence. In addition, food is allowed during competition and can be used to reward behavior before moving on to the next exercise! Are you interested in Competition Obedience but feel you are not quite ready?

APDT Rally offers an opportunity to execute many exercise similar to Competition Obedience such as Drop on Recall, Stand, Call to Heel and Stand for Exam. Teams navigate the course at a brisk, continuous pace without direction from the judge.

Tails U Win will be hosting an APDT titling trial in the summer of 2009. Trials typically include Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 courses. A team earns a Rally title after successfully completing three course runs with qualifying scores. Titles can be earned at each level and teams also earn Championship titles, National Ranking Awards and a special Award of Excellence.

Course Description:

This 6 week course will introduce you to the rules and regulations of APDT Rally.  By the end of the 6 week course, you will have been introduced to and have practiced all of the Level I exercises. Classes will also consist of practicing course sequences and opportunities to test your new APDT skills.
